Odor-Tech has grown into one of the premier suppliers of natural gas and propane odorants in North America.  Founded in 1994 by Thomas E. Tucker, P.E. with the stated goal of providing odorant services to municipalities, natural gas pipeline companies and others.  In July of 2008, Odor-Tech was acquired by Arkema Inc.

Our Products and Markets

Distributors of utilities for consumer use are required by law to odorize natural gas and propane to assist in detecting possible leaks, lessening the risk of natural gas explosions.  To this end, Odor-Tech offers product lines for use in both natural gas and propane/butane, including various blends of SPOTLEAK^TM, ethyl mercaptan and tetrahydrothiophene.

Another product, Mercaptan Assassin^TM ESD, is used to clean up mercaptan spills, treat empty drums, as well as removing mercaptan from fabric or clothing.  Mercaptan Assassin^TM ESD organically digests mercaptans, proteins, carbohydrates, cellulose, fats, oils, uric salts and grease.  It is particularly effective for foul odor "emergencies" where both instant and long-lasting odor control are desired. Mercaptan Assassin^TM ESD can be used around people, domesticated animals, plants and marine life.

A compatible product, Mercaptan Assassin^TM AOT, is used to treat airborne odors.  With just one or two mists even the most offensive odors are cleared away, leaving a pleasant citrus smell. 

Our Facility

Odor-Tech’s processing and storage facility is located in Esler Industrial Park, directly adjacent to Esler Air Field.  Situated on 3,200 acres of land, Esler Industrial Airpark works closely with Camp Beauregard, which serves as one of the main training bases for the Louisiana National Guard. 

With over 2 million pounds of capacity, Odor-Tech operates the largest storage and blending facility for ready-to-go commercial odorant blends in North America and employs a highly trained staff of fourteen full time employees.  A versatile delivery fleet allows Odor-Tech to reach its customers across the U.S. and Canada, even those in remote areas.

Commitment to Safety,  the Environment, and our Community

Odor-Tech uses a state-of-the-art “closed loop” delivery system.  In traditional “flared” delivery, excess vapors are burned off creating sulfur dioxide, raising environmental concerns and resulting in a powerful aroma.  Odor-Tech’s closed-loop delivery system eliminates excess vapors and results in a safer, odor-free, delivery. 

Additionally, each of the storage tanks on Pineville site is surrounded by a secondary, welded-steel containment structure that can hold the entire contents of the tank in the event of an emergency.

Odor-Tech packages its products in returnable, reusable cylinders.  Available in sizes from five to one-hundred gallons, the containers reduce waste and eliminate disposal challenges for end-use suppliers.

In recent years, Odor-Tech has received several safety awards.  In The American Chemistry Council awarded them with the Responsible Care Award for Employee Health and Safety for 2008 and 2009.  Odor-Tech also earned Arkema’s Outstanding Safety Performance Award in both 2008 and 2009.
