Platamid® Hot Melt Adhesivies Powder Coatings

Arkema manufactures a range of hot melt adhesives used in the construction of clothing and apparel. These specialty polymers are applied to interlining fabrics and non-wovens from melted pellets, powders or dispersions. The finished interlinings are fused to the face fabric in heated presses. Garments using these constructions have full fashion and form stability, and maintain their form after repeated dry-cleaning and washing.

Paste coating

An aqueous dispersion produced with 0-80µ powder is applied as dots using a rotary screen printing method. The coating is dried using a circulating air oven. This procedure is used primarily to coat non-wovens.

Powder point coating

Powder dots are transferred to the textile substrate from a semi spherical indented engraving roller. The substrate is heated with thermal rollers. An infra-red oven melts the powder particles into molten dots. The powder particle size for this application method can range from 0-120 µ to 0-200 µ.

This method requires specific temperatures and generally only suitable for woven and knitted substrates.

Scatter coating

This method is suitable for all substrates. A scatter roller sprinkles loose, coarse powder with a typical particle size of 0-500 µ or 200-300 µ. The powder is melt adhered to the substrate using infra-red heat. Scatter coating is used to produce layered materials or laminates in a single operation.

Double dot point coating

This procedure combines two methods, such as paste coating followed by scatter coating. The scattered powder adheres to the paste points. Both layers pass through an infra red heater which binds them to two-layer points ("double dot" points).
