Safer Organic Peroxides Formulations

A trend observed in PVC polymerization is the use of safer organic peroxide formulations.
One option is the use of an aqueous emulsion (frozen and non frozen). In case of decomposition, the water phase acts as a heat sink, thus dramatically reducing the risk of explosion.

The main factors for perfect emulsion formulations are:

  • Stability of the emulsion along the shelf-life
  • Low maximum droplet size in order to reduce risk of fish-eyes
  • Low viscosity for easier handling and pumping

As a second alternative, Arkema is also providing stabilized peroxycarbonates composition (Vseries). These formulations are in an organic solvent that increase assay stability during the storage and intermediate storage for formulations.
